Moose Hill Farm, a property of The Trustees of Reservations located in Sharon, MA, is starting its first year of production as a combined produce/livestock operation.  We are hiring farm apprentices for the 2013 season.  We are seeking hard-working, enthusiastic, flexible people to assist with building this new farm.  In the first season, we will be focusing on a 100 member CSA program, a flock of 300 laying hens, on and off-site farm stands and hunger relief/food access work. Responsibilities include: assisting with crop production, greenhouse work, field preparations & tillage, hand and tractor cultivation, harvest and distribution for the CSA and farm stands, and a range of chores associated with the laying hens.  You will work closely with the farm manager on all aspects of production.

We are looking for individuals who are excited about sustainable farming and who are up to the challenge of the physically demanding schedule, tasks, and pace of the farm season. This candidate should be comfortable working intimately with a small crew and also helping to lead groups of volunteers.  The candidate also needs to be very enthusiastic about working with a large flock of chickens and egg production. Ideally, you are someone who loves working hard towards a great goal, has an awesome positive attitude and has 1 year of experience working on a production farm.   You must have a valid driver’s license.  There is an intensive farmer-in-training aspect to this apprenticeship, which will require that you participate in group and individual check-ins and goal setting.

This is a 33-week position.  Two apprentices are needed from April-November and one apprentice is needed May-December.  Compensation is $10/hr (with work weeks ranging from 40hrs in the beginning to 50hrs at the height of the season) the farm’s produce and eggs, and participation in Eastern Mass CRAFT workshops.   On-farm housing may be available to rent if you wish to live on the farm.
