Ring-a-Ding Farms hiring Farm Manager

Ring-a-Ding Farms, LLC Hiring Farm Manager

$25,000.00/year with a 5% profit share up to $10,000.00

Ring-a-Ding Farms, LLC is a brand new organic vegetable farm located in the beautiful Rocky Mountains in Southern Colorado (near Salida). This past year, we constructed a 9,000 square foot barn with ~1500 square feet of underground cellar space; a fully automated gravity feed solid set sprinkler system; and cleared approximately 10 of the 35 acres of the property for cultivation. This year we would like to begin production on 5 acres, clear the remaining acreage for future production, and construct a commercial greenhouse. We are hoping to focus on root crops, loose leaf greens, brambles, stone fruits, and apples for local distribution to farmer’s markets, restaurants, and small grocers. We are also exploring the idea of a co-op style CSA in the future.

Our approach is one of minimal inputs. We are hoping to get all nutrients from green manure and all fuel from on farm produced biodiesel. We hope this, coupled with our gravity feed irrigation and avoidance of plasticulture, will make our farm as closed loop as possible. It is our belief that in addition to sustainable farming practices, we should also have sustainable employment practices. As such, we have oriented much of our operation around significant mechanization rather than numerous laborers– which we are hoping will allow us to more adequately provide for our employees.

We are looking for a long term farm manager who is interested in helping to grow the farm. We will start you at $25,000.00/year with a 5% profit share up to $10,000.00. Housing is not provided. Prospective applicants must have a related college level degree and or significant experience working and managing organic vegetable operations. We would like to see experience with hiring and managing labor, machinery, crop planning, harvest planning, irrigation management, greenhouse management, orchard management, CSA, and farmer’s markets. Applicants must be healthy and capable of lifting 50# repeatedly and or above head level.
