GREEN STRING FARM- Natural Process Farming Internship
We have some last minute openings for our Summer season at Green String Farm starting on June 1, 2014.
**PLEASE DISREGARD THE DEADLINE ON THE WEBSITE**
Green String is a 140 acre farm, with 50-60 acres in cultivation, in Petaluma, CA, practicing natural process agriculture. The farm produces vegetables and fruits and maintains a farm store year-round. Our internship program is a unique opportunity for future farmers to get training in sustainable farming. Interns join the farm for three months, to live, learn, work, and play. Interns help out in the fields, in the farm store, and with special projects. Interns have lessons most weekday afternoons. Bob Cannard teaches the majority of lessons, and covers all practical aspects of natural process farming, from seed selection and pruning to tool maintenance and more. We aim to involve interns in as many aspects of farm work as possible build a breadth of experience. Farm work includes: harvesting fruits and vegetables, caring for egg-laying chickens, weeding, hoeing, and competition control, site maintenance, and assisting in the farm store.
Interns are hired as employees of the farm and receive a paycheck with deductions for food, housing, and tuition. Each group of interns lives in a four-bedroom house on the farm. We provide seasonal vegetables and fruit from the farm, as well as a limited amount of eggs, olive oil, meat, and preserves that the farm produces. Staple foods such as beans, flours, sugar, and grains, are also provided.
Interns are expected to be available weekends to help with the farm store, farm outreach, and caring for animals — chickens don’t take weekends off! We expect interns not to have outside jobs during their time here.
Applications are due: May 23rd
