Land’s Sake hiring Assistant Educator for Teen Summer Program

The Green Power Assistant Educator will implement the unique Green Power program for teens ages 13-17. Green Power is a week-long immersive local food systems program. Students participate in farm work, group projects, community service, educating youth, and planning and cooking a community meal. He or she will work collaboratively with other staff to effectively manage the inherent risks of working on a farm, empower participants to learn and work together, while teaching and adhering to current best management practices for sustainable food production.

The Green Power program engages youth ages 13-17 and offers seven independent weeks of full day sessions through the summer. This program is focused on learning about sustainable agriculture, food justice, and community through engaging experiences. These experiences include: planting, weeding and harvesting on our organic farm, leading farm tours for youth from Boston, maintaining our education garden, community service with local food aid organizations, and cooking a community meal. In addition to being a great learning opportunity, Green Power teaches the value of meaningful work by offering participants community service hours and a share of the produce from the garden.   • Assist the Green Power Leader in implementing mission-based curriculum
  • Lead and work with participants ages 13-17 through in a variety of settings in work based educational activities including: farming, gardening, community service, cooking and caring for livestock
  • Manage a group of up to 10 people safely around the farm
  • Gather weekly feedback from participants
  • Communicate with parents as needed
  • Assist with the production of field and garden crops


  • Teaching experience in a school, camp or other or non-traditional setting
  • Farming and/or gardening experience
  • Experience supervising youth
  • Group leadership experience
  • The ability to multi-task and work independently
  • Must be physically able to work outdoors and willing to do so in bad weather if necessary
  • Access to a car and valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to pass CORI check

Employment Dates: Training and Program Development: As needed in June, at least 20 hours Programming: 8:00am-4:30pmJune 30- August 15 2014 Cleanup & Debrief: 8:00am – 4:30pmAugust 18-22
