West Kill, New York
Newton Farm Collective seeking intern for 2015 season, May through September. We are a small organic farm in the Catskills growing 2 acres of intensively planted biodynamic vegetables and herbs. We sell at a local Farmer’s market, onsite farm stand, and to restaurants. Accommodations are in our large old farmhouse with private bedroom and shared bath with one or two others. Half the farmhouse is rented during the summer season for farm stays. Your quarters are private, but tidiness is essential. The farm is in a high mountain valley with streams for swimming on the property
and some of the best hiking trails in the Catskills right on our road. We are located 3 hours from NYC and 15 minutes to Phoenicia, NY.
Work to be done includes full range of soil amending, planting, fencing, weeding, mulching, organic pest control, mowing, harvesting and marketing. Farm work also includes help with maintenance of small flock of chickens and upkeep of onsite farm store. We are looking for an independent, self motivated, individual who can entertain themselves during off hours. We need about 5 hours a day of farm work, Monday through Saturday. Must have own transportation as farm is quite rural. Kitchen is available for cooking and intern can use all vegetables grown on farm. A small stipend will be paid. This is a unique opportunity for anyone interested in sustainable agriculture on a small scale. There is one farmer living on farm, and 2 others who commute from the city regularly. Other activities at the farm include: bees, cidering, pickling, and preserving. Music is a large area of interest for everyone involved.
Interested candidates should send their application materials to Garret Landon at firstname.lastname@example.org
