Classification: Full time, seasonal, salaried, exempt
Qualifications:

  • 21 years of age as of June 15th 2015
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Ability to work long hours, including evenings
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Experience or willingness to learn small engine operation and maintenance including mowers, trimmers, and tillers
  • Knowledge of organic gardening practices and techniques
  • Strong and independent work ethic
  • Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with fellow Farm Camp staff and guests
  • Desire to work with children
  • Clean US drivers license preferred

General Description:

This positions main function is to create and maintain a safe, fun, and educational environment for Frost Valley’s Farm Camp garden. The Garden Manager will be responsible for the management of a 2 acre production and educational garden including raised beds, row crops, and berry crops. The Garden Manager will also assist the Farm Property Manager with grounds, landscape, general maintenance, and hay crop harvest throughout the season. Daily tasks may include, but are not limited to; morning and evening chores facilitation, planting, weeding, watering, composting, harvesting, mowing, trimming, and general maintenance and clean up.

Responsibilities:

  • Planning, planting, maintaining, and harvests of the garden area
  • Ensure a fun and safe environment for Farm Camp participants
  • Coordinate garden needs and chores with the Garden Educator
  • Maintain accurate harvest logs
  • Oversight and facilitation of morning and evening chore activities
  • Maintain an ongoing list of garden tasks and projects for campers, staff, and volunteers
  • Utilize organic growing techniques, tools, and practices
  • Research and implement new ideas and practices in relation to organic gardening
  • Maintain the gardens visual appearance to the highest standard
  • Ensure all garden tools are maintained in good condition
  • Maintain the garden shed with a neat and organized appearance
  • Keep an accurate planting log and garden map along with a crop rotation plan
  • Plan and coordinate harvests for the Farm Camp Kitchen, Closing Day Farmers Markets, and Frost Valley’s Board of Directors Meeting Luncheon
  • Assist Property Manager with general maintenance, landscape and grounds aesthetics and maintenance, and hay crop harvest and storage
  • Perform custodial duties in and around garden area as needed
  • Maintain an excellent relationship with Garden Educator, Farm Camp Chef, and all other Farm Camp Staff
  • Be a positive role model
  • Share your knowledge and excitement for farming and growing food
  • Other duties as assigned by Farm Property Manager and Farm Camp Director
