Tahoma Farms Seeks Field Manager for 2016 Season and Beyond
Tahoma Farms, in Orting, Washington, is seeking a field manager for the 2016 season, beginning ASAP. This is a year round, full time position, 30-60 hours per week, depending on the season. Some evenings and weekends are required as necessary. Hourly wage, starts at $13/hour, depending on experience. Benefits include access to produce from the farm, a discount on produce from our sister company (Terra Organics), as well as 2 weeks of paid vacation. Possible on site housing seasonally available in refurbished vintage trailer.
Tahoma Farms is a 40-acre certified organic vegetable farm located on the fertile banks of the Puyallup River. Our farm has been in production since 2009, and is part of a 100-acre conservation easement held by the PCC Farmland Trust that ensures our farm will always be a farm in organic production. We grow a wide variety of mostly cool climate vegetables and berries. Three-quarters of what we produce goes directly to our sister company, Terra Organics (www.terra-organics.com) for distribution to homes and businesses in the Puget Sound region. We also sell certain crops to local wholesale companies.
Field manager reports to and works with farm owners and other farm managers on a daily basis to develop a work plan, efficiently carry out work plan with field crew and maintain quality and quantity standards for products. Ideal candidate will have 2+ years of management experience on a diversified organic farm, comfortable managing a crew of 5+ employees/interns, competent operating and maintaining farm equipment, proficient at keeping records of all kinds (related to production, organic certification, finances and food safety) and be a problem solver. Conversational Spanish is a plus. We are looking for someone who is interested in farming as a career, and partnership opportunities are a possibility for the right person.
Requirements: valid driver’s license, able to lift 50+ pounds regularly, ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees, basic computer skills (excel, word, etc), passion for growing healthy, organic food and the local food system, and enthusiasm for educating the next generation of farmers.
