Green Spark Farm
Green Spark Farm produces vegetables year-round, and cut flowers, garden seedlings, and herbs in season in coastal Cape Elizabeth, Maine. At Green Spark Farm, we grow rare and uniquely flavorful and colorful produce. We employ between three and six employees on the farm from May to Thanksgiving. We produce beautiful vegetables for the Greater Portland community, selling through our on-farm stand, CSA, restaurants, and at the Portland Farmer’s Market in Summer and Winter. All our farm products are certified organic by MOFGA Certification Services, LLC.
What we are looking for: We are looking to hire employees who are able to commit to a full time work schedule for the main season from April to November.
Hours: In early spring, and late in the fall, we start at 7am and finish about 4 pm M-F. On our busiest harvest days, Tuesdays and Fridays, as we prepare for our Wednesday and Saturday markets, we work until work is done. During peak season (about July – September), we work twelve hour days from 7am to 5pm.
Work: There are many types of work on our farm. Primarily work days are filled with harvesting, washing and packing vegetables for market, potting-up seedlings, transplanting and bed preparation in the field, as well as weeding, amending, construction projects, and fence maintenance. All of these tasks require focus to ensure efficiency for the farm’s viability. Please be prepared for fast physical labor in any weather.
Pay: We pay a starting wage of $10/hr. This includes a mid-morning 10 minute snack break. Our half-hour lunch is off the clock. Housing is not included.
We want you to come away from your time at Green Spark with more farming knowledge than when you started; we are invested in your education and your well being. If you have questions or special interests, please communicate them to us. We are willing to share everything we know about running a farm business with those interested in farming as a career.
To Apply: Please email firstname.lastname@example.org with your resume and brief letter of interest. We require on-farm working interview before hire.
