Walton, New York
New farm and CSA seeking co-farmers.
East Brook Farm is a brand new farm and CSA on 90acs in Walton NY in the bountiful western Catskills. Our business is structured as a worker-coop, and we are looking for other farmers (former interns ok) with at least some experience to join us who are open to the risks and rewards that come with being part of a cooperative start-up.
We have a 2 acre no-till plot that grew pretty great veggies last season, a huge barn and other outbuildings, a big house to share, some trucks and equipment, some connections to local markets including NYC, lots of good dirt, water, woods, and a swimming hole too!
We are planning a whole-farm CSA as an economic and community base to the farm, with an intention to expand into other markets and products as we grow. We already do hand crafted herbal medicinal and personal care products, and future interests are in the nursery trade, permaculture design and installations, small dairy, animal breeding, wildcrafting, fermented foods, small crafts and more. We encourage those with an existing skillset to consider us to see if their own entrepreneurial passions might find a home here.
The type of folks we hope will fit in well here have a passion and interest in permaculture and ecological farming, sustainable living, cooperative economics, food and social justice, and maybe being a small part of changing the messed up system we all live under.
We want to be clear that we are just starting out. We have some startup funds and experience running a no-till CSA ourselves, and some existing support. This could be an opportunity for motivated beginners as well as for experienced farmhands, especially if there is a shared intention for cooperative engagement, and a willingness to explore becoming creative partners!
We encourage folks of all genders, identities, and ethnicities, to apply!
