New England farm hiring Farming Production Manager

Suffield, Connecticut

This 5-year old farm seeks a farming production manager to grow the business. Who is needed? Someone with at least 3-5 years of vegetable farming experience (that’s a must!) and is ready for the next step in their farming career. This person will run the farm’s vegetable and fruit production, reporting to the farm’s owner and working closely with the sales and marketing department. Responsibilities will include crop planning (crop/acreage allocation and seed forecasting), planting and harvesting scheduling, and also the hiring and management temporary laborers. Off season will include analyzing prior year results, researching new crops and methods for improvement in the upcoming year, and general cleaning and maintenance for the upcoming season.

This is a stable, fully-funded, and salaried position. The production manager will be expected to work year round, with reduced hours in the winter BUT NO SALARY REDUCTION.

An outstanding candidate should be someone who loves farming as much as the owners do, is passionate about organic and sustainable farming, has the technical experience to know what’s working and what isn’t, and is responsible enough to manage themselves and a temporary labor force on a day to day basis. A degree in sustainable agriculture is a plus, but not required.

Qualified candidates should send a current resume to Dorrie Boyd at dboyd@msi1.com, or call 413-233-5485.
