New York – Muddy Farm hiring Full Time Farm Worker

Stone Ridge, New York

Muddy Farm is looking to hire a full time worker for the 2017 growing season. The position starts part time in Mid March, easing into full time in April and going through until Thanksgiving. We are looking for someone with at least 2 years of commercial vegetable growing experience.  We mainly grow for a farmers’ market in New York City. We have been selling at that market for 8 years and we have a great relationship with our customers. We tailored our growing choices to what they want and what makes the most sense money wise.
The candidate should be self motivated, responsible and okay working alone. Knowing how to pace themselves and prioritize is essential. Must be able to lift 50lbs. Pay starts at $14/hour, possibly more depending on experience. Along with produce and eggs from the farm and bread and meat from the farmers’ market. Also possible raises throughout the growing season, if the season is good! Ideal days are Tues-Saturday.  Work includes: harvesting, weeding( by hand, wheel hoe or cultivating tractor) working with a BCS (mowing and tilling), setting up irrigation, using irrigation, seeding and transplanting. We want to be able to give you  to-do lists and go through them and rely on you to get them done. If you have better methods than us we aren’t dogmatic about our farming!
We have 2 plots of land in the mid-Hudson Valley region of NY.  We grow on 5-6 acres that are certified Naturally Grown with 2 greenhouses. We also have 200-300 laying hens.  The plots are challenging. One is poor draining. We are constantly adding compost to and grow strictly on raised beds. The other plot is rocky. Both have amazing soil makeup and our produce rocks.
We are a married couple, and the last 5 years have hired a part time worker. But we are expecting our first child so want more support this season.
