Colorado – Cloud City Farm hiring Farmer

Leadville, Colorado

Farmer Position Cloud City Farm

PO Box 459
Leadville, CO 80461

Organization Description:

Cloud City Conservation Center has been inspiring stewardship of our natural resources in Leadville and Lake County, Colorado since 2013. We do this by creating educational opportunities and lasting community infrastructure. The Cloud City Farm grew out of our school recycling and composting programs, when students and teachers asked for a place to grow food with the compost they are creating from lunch room scraps. A recent LiveWell Leadville Community Food Assessment has concluded that healthy foods are not adequately accessible and affordable in our community. We are on a mission to change this.

Job Description:

We are constructing a 1,300 square foot greenhouse, 2 – 2,400 square foot high tunnels covering raised beds, and 2,000 square feet of outside raised beds on a 2.5 acre piece of land adjacent to schools, bike path, and a community field. Located at 10,000 ft above sea level in the heart of the Colorado Rockies, the Cloud City Farm will be the first of its kind. Summer temperatures in Leadville range from 30° – 80°, an occasional snow fall is possible. Crops will be sold directly to the public through a CSA program and local farmer’s market.

The Farmer is responsible for all aspects of production, developing and executing long-term farming strategy in partnership with the Executive Director. The Farmer provides leadership for the interns and volunteer farm staff, and diligent record keeping to support the long-term viability of the program. The Farmer supports the Education Coordinator with education programs and outreach as well.
