Canterbury, New Hampshire
Brookford Farm is a large, diversified operation nestled along the banks of the Merrimack River in central New Hampshire, a short drive north of Concord. On 300 acres of river bottom soil we grow about 30 acres of certified organic vegetables, raise pastured layers, broilers, and hogs, and rotationally graze our dairy and beef animals. Our milk, meats and vegetables are all sold in their raw forms or turned into various cultured products right here on the farm, and moved through our 300 member year-round CSA, farmers markets, and local groceries and restaurants.
Assistant Field Manager-Organic Vegetables
Brookford Farm’s vegetable crew is seeking an Assistant Field/Maintenance Manager.
We manage ~35 acres of organic vegetables for distribution to a 270+ member CSA, wholesale markets and restaurants, and farmers markets. We are one department on a ‘full diet’ 650 acre diverse organic farm, and with a myriad of native tongues among our staff including French, Swahili, Arabic, Spanish, Russian, German, and Californian, our farm proudly reflects the strength of cultural and agricultural diversity.
A successful applicant will have experience and skills in the operation and maintenance of machinery, as the Assistant Field/Maintenance Manager is responsible for the majority of mechanical weed cultivation, lots of advanced larger tractor work in support of the Field Manager, and the majority of the maintenance and repair of the vegetable crew’s machinery, including tractors, implements, etc. The position doesn’t necessarily require a background in agriculture, but a strong proven interest in sustainable food production would be vital for sustained motivation and interest–this work will burn you out very quickly if you’re only here for the paycheck.
While much of the position’s responsibilities involve machinery, the Assistant Field/Maintenance manager will may be called on to lead crews. Accordingly, successful candidates will be self-motivated, working capably and efficiently both independently and in groups, with the ability to lead small groups.
Our work requires passion, precision, speed, and great stamina. Much of our crew will log 55+ rigorous hours in 5 days and then head off to hike, ride bikes, or build houses in their time off. Successful candidates will have a proven work history in physically demanding positions. Special consideration will be given to those with pertinent advanced education and/or a career mindset.
Brookford Farm is located on an incredible piece of land along the Merrimack River. The ambitious ‘full diet’ scope of our production, the great people that work here, and the ethics and motives that drive us make our farm truly special. We thank you for your interest in joining our team, and look forward to hearing from you.
