Farm Store Manager
Atlas Farm is a 95-acre, certified organic, vegetable farm located in Deerfield, MA. We grow and market produce year-round through wholesale accounts, farmers’ markets and our own retail farm store. The Farm Store Manager position is a year-round, full-time management position at the farm with the primary responsibility of overseeing activities at our South Deerfield retail farm store. Specific duties include: managing a staff of 6 clerks and a purchasing manager; creating daily and seasonal work schedules; merchandising and product displays; coordinating print, radio, and internet advertising and publicity; sourcing new products for sale at the farm store; creating signage and other marketing materials; and coordinating activities between production and farm store staff. Applicants should have a strong background in retail management, fresh produce, familiarity with organic vegetable production, marketing and creative experience, strong computer skills, and excellent communication skills. This is a very important position in our farm’s management team and has a lot of potential for long-term growth and development. Field Production Assistant and Equipment Operator
Atlas Farm is a 95-acre, certified organic, vegetable farm located in Deerfield, MA. We grow and market produce year-round through wholesale accounts, farmers’ markets and our own retail farm store. The Field Production Assistant and Equipment Operator position is focused on vegetable crop production including field preparation, planting, cultivation, pest and disease control, and other production practices. This position is heavily centered on equipment work and applicants should have a minimum of 2 years experience operating tractors and other farm equipment and a knowledge of vegetable production practices in New England. Applicants should also have an aptitude for record keeping, calculating for fertilizer and pest control applications, and trouble shooting and maintaining equipment. The Field Production Assistant works very closely with the farm owner and the rest of the farm management staff and should have strong communication skills, attention to detail, ability to multi-task and ability to adapt quickly to the ever changing farm environment. This is a year-round position requiring up to 60 hours per week during the main season of April-November and decreasing to 20-30 hours per week from December-March. Greenhouse Assistant
Atlas Farm is a 95-acre, certified organic, vegetable farm located in Deerfield, MA. We grow and market produce year-round through wholesale accounts, farmers’ markets and our own retail farm store. The greenhouse assistant is a full-time, year-round position at the farm and plays a critical role in the farm’s greenhouse production. The primary focus of this position is assisting in the operation and management of the farm’s 6 greenhouses and 4 high tunnel structures and all production related activities in these areas, especially during the main greenhouse season from March through July. During the other months of the year, the greenhouse assistant may also participate in other areas of the farm including field production, harvest and packing house work, and building projects. Daily job responsibilities include: maintaining seeding and transplanting schedules, assisting with the management of a crew of 4-6 workers in greenhouse related tasks, monitoring crop needs including fertility, water, pest management, and climate control and coordinating with the greenhouse manager on crop management tasks in these areas. The schedule for this position averages approximately 45 hours/ week over the calendar year with seasonal highs and lows. The typical schedule is 5 1/2 – 6 days/week (6am-6pm) during the main greenhouse season from March through July, 5 days/week from August through October (6am-5pm), and 4 days/week from November-February (8am-4pm).
