New York – Shekomeko Farms hiring Field Manager

Shekomeko Farms is a new and expanding small-scale diversified organic farm in the hamlet of Shekomeko, NY, between Millbrook and Millerton. We produce a diverse array of certified-organic vegetables, herbs, cut flowers, edible flowers, micro-greens, berries, fruit and honey. The primary goal of Shekomeko Farms is to provide delicious and thoughtfully curated produce and flowers directly to consumers both locally and in New York City. This season we will sell to restaurants locally and in New York City, and through an online store. We are also experimenting with advanced value-added processing and food preservation techniques in our on-site facility.

We are seeking a Field Manager to join our crew and fill an immediate opening. The Field Manager will work closely with the Farm Manager to determine the field work for the week, coordinating bed prep, planting, harvest and irrigation. This season we are growing vegetables intensively on 2.5 acres and one heated hoop house with plans to expand production the following season. This is an opportunity get in early, and help shape the development of a growing enterprise.

We are seeking someone who is:

  • Detail-oriented, both in actions and communication

  • ready to take on the demands of outdoor farming, in all weather conditions

  • up for the inevitable challenges of a farming season, and will approach each day with a  positive attitude and good humor

  • Willing to participate in a start-up environment that might require taking on a variety of roles and wearing various hats

Qualifications include:

  • Able to safely lift and carry 50 lbs.

  • 2+ seasons on a production farm

  • Experience working with a tractor and related equipment

  • Able to work efficiently and contentedly alone or with a group

  • Reliable transportation to and from the farm

  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to drive delivery vehicles (large sprinter van and SUV) in and out of Manhattan

  • Construction experience, general handiness, and the ability to drive stick, and the ability to work while carrying on a conversation  are plusses.

SCHEDULE: This position begins as seasonal and full-time through the month of November. After three months, potential for year-round employment will be discussed, with added benefits.  We are hoping to find the right fit and someone who would like to help the farm grow over multiple seasons.

Work weeks are Monday through Friday with rotating weekend duties, which could include delivery to NYC and working a farmer’s market shift. Hours are 35-55 per week, depending on season.


Salaried, 45,000-60,000 D.O.E. Paid vacation days accrue 1 day/month. Housing could be included if needed.
