Vegetable Farmer

A Full-time, year-round vegetable farmer position growing certified organic/biodynamic vegetables in the southern Catskills of New York. Thanksgiving Farm is owned and operated by the Center for Discovery, a large non-profit organization, which is also the farm’s principal customer. We also run a 300 member CSA. Field production on 18 acres, 8 high tunnels for season extension and three heated greenhouses for winter greens production. Competitive salary and benefits. Eligibility for on-farm housing. 3-5 years’ experience in managing diversified, mechanized field vegetable production preferred. Conversational Spanish a plus. Cheesemaker Wanted for New Goat Dairy

Ready to make amazing cheese? Fantastic full time, year round opportunity for an experienced cheesemaker to join our team at Thanksgiving Farm at The Center for Discovery in Sullivan County, New York. We are a certified organic and Demeter certified biodynamic farm in the foothills of the Catskills.

The ideal candidate will have experience in all aspects of cheese making and be responsible for our entire goat dairy program. Looking for someone with great energy and enthusiasm for making high quality products. We provide all of the infrastructure – you just make fabulous cheese!

Qualifications

  • Cheese making experience
  • Knowledge of equipment, safety and handling procedures, as well as finishing including ageing.
  • Experience with animal husbandry especially with goats
  • Works well autonomously as well as within a team environment.
  • Experience with product development a plus
  • Flexibility
  • Great attitude

Responsibilities

  • Goat management in conjunction with our livestock team
  • Handling and milking of livestock
  • Cleaning and sanitizing all equipment.
  • Proper holding and storage of milk for cheese.
  • Help create and follow all cheese recipes.
  • Product safety and following HACCP style food safety program.
  • Production quality from beginning through packaging and delivery.
  • Follow state and federal cheese making regulations.
  • Light office work.
  • Some teaching and interaction with individuals with special needs (experience not required).

Registered Dietician

A fantastic opportunity for a Registered Dietitian who is interested in working within our “Food is Medicine” model. Located on a certified organic and biodynamic farm, The Center for Discovery is home to a food program that focuses on providing optimal nutrition to individuals with developmental disabilities. Work with chefs, farmers, and other clinicians to maximize the therapeutic use of whole foods.

Requirements:

  • Must be a registered dietitian with at least 2 years clinical experience.
  • Knowledge/expertise in autism a plus
  • Research background/interest also helpful
