Broad Arrow Farm seeks a livestock manager to join a team farming on the Pemaquid Peninsula in Bristol, Maine. The position requires at least five years’ practical experience and a passion for the land and its resources. The candidate must have some fluency with livestock husbandry and the ability to work and communicate efficiently.
The Livestock Manager is a critical team-member in the development of the farm. Manager responsibilities include all aspects of animal husbandry and resource management. Livestock populations are hogs, sheep and poultry, including a woods-based farrow-to-finish hog operation with a herd of Large Black X Old Spots. Access to all necessary equipment and resources will be provided.
The Broad Arrow Farm Project consists of 160 acres of forest, 7 acres of grass pasture and a gravel yard, presently covering two properties with multiple points of access. While the hog operation is the foundational economic enterprise, there are plants focused operations on the farm and in the gardens, with the two operations often merging through water, soil and crop management. Good communication skills will be required when the operations overlap.
Broad Arrow Farm would consider a farm couple or family with multiple members interested in employment. Compensation commensurate with experience. Package includes housing and health care insurance.
