Job Title: Livestock Assistant
Category: Part time, 30-35 hours/week. 30 day probationary period.
Reports to: Farm Manager
Pay Scale: $12 – $14/ hour, based on education and experience.
Working under the direction of the Farm Manager to care for livestock and poultry, grounds and building maintenance, and assist with management of Volunteers.
Daily correspondence with and oversight of Farmyard Volunteers
Help prepare Farmyard and Animals for education groups
Feeding, watering, cleaning, and pasture rotation for livestock and poultry
Take notes related to animal health, feeding, and pasture rotation, as well as volunteer tasks, education groups, etc.
Grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming and snow removal as needed
Other duties as assigned.
Education/Skills: Bachelor’s Degree preferred, High School Diploma/GED and relevant work experience required. Basic knowledge of animal care, livestock experience preferred. Good communications skills. Positive attitude. Passion for the mission of Gorman Heritage Farm.
Physical demands: This position requires very strenuous physical activities. Must be able to lift 50 pounds independently. The work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all kinds of weather.
Equipment operated: Tractors, truck with trailer, utility vehicles, zero turn mower, weed eater, hand tools, power tools, computer, printer/copier, and other equipment found in office, farm and teaching environment.
