|Job Description:||The Family Nutrition Program (FNP) is the Florida component of the SNAP-Ed program (formerly food stamp nutrition education). The Florida Farm to School and Community Program within the Family Nutrition Program envisions a state in which Farm to School and Community is an essential component of robust food systems and the quality and impact of its programs contribute substantially to the quality of life for school children, farmers, and their communities. This position will provide statewide leadership, education, and technical support in support of the program’s goals and objectives. This position will supervise, train, and support regional Farm to School Specialists in their efforts to support capacity building among school food authorities, farmers, and communities to increase the availability of specialty crops in the school lunch program and to increase the number of farmers selling to local farmers markets using appropriate procurement processes while meeting state and federal food safety standards. The Food Systems Specialist will promote and expand Farm to School activities at the state and county levels within an extensive and diverse statewide network of school authorities, parents, and children; farmers and distributors; University of Florida Extension faculty and administrators; staff of federal and state agencies; and representatives from other public and private organizations. The position will be responsible for: coordinating with school food hubs; providing support and training for school, child care, and community gardens; promoting farmers’ market nutrition education; designing and developing training programs to support Farm to School and Community program priorities; leading communication among team members; performing outreach to the public; and planning and implementing meetings and training events.
Ongoing Training and County Program Support
Supervision of Regional Specialists
• Conduct weekly or monthly “check-ins” to ensure regional specialists have the support and resources required to complete their jobs.
This positions supervises ten Education/Training Specialist IIs, and three Extension Program Assistants that work in school food hubs.
Normal Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, 40 hours a week or more as needed. Most work will occur during business hours Monday through Friday, 8 am – 5 pm. Variation includes travel to counties for program visits and reviews; some weekend work may be necessary. Travel within Florida and to attend national meetings for training and outreach is required.

|Minimum Requirements:||Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.|
|Preferred Qualifications:||Management of multiple employees housed at locations around the state of Florida; excellent attendance history in prior positions; excellent oral and written communication skills, including a courteous and helpful manner in all communications; completeness, accuracy, and timeliness in all work, scheduling and event management experience; proficiency with MS office software, social media tools and other web computer applications are keys to success. Candidates must have a general knowledge of food systems, and some combination of experience in one or more of the following fields: nutrition, agriculture, marketing, curriculum development, program evaluation, and/or extension programming.
Candidates should have the ability to positively interact with a wide variety of business and organizational partners as an ambassador of the Florida Farm to School and Community Program and articulate the Program’s goals, strategies, and outcomes with confidence. Experience working in a college or university setting a plus. The successful candidate will manage and prioritize tasks, anticipate problems and work towards resolution without intensive management, pay attention to detail, exhibit superior time management and organizational skills.
