New York – Hilltop Hanover Farm hiring Multiple Positions

Hilltop Hanover Farm:

Hilltop Hanover Farm is a nonprofit farm and education center located in Yorktown Heights, NY, less than 1 hr. north of NYC and is open to the public free of charge.  Our produce is grown using sustainable and organic methods and our produce is sold at our 100 member CSA, wholesale, Farm Store and 10% of our produce is donated to food pantries and soup kitchens.  We offer educational opportunities to adults and children and host over 3,000 school visits annually, with over 25,000 visitors annually. Our production season runs from April – Nov. 31st – with a small hoop house operation in the winter.  We have (3) dairy cows, (2) goats and roughly (50) free range chickens. We are currently cropping (8) acres with a diverse variety of produce and (1) hoop house & (1) heated hoop house.

Field Crew (Seasonal)

Primary responsibilities

  • Assist with propagation, bed preparation, transplanting, irrigation, weeding, and greenhouse management
  • Work efficiently during harvesting, processing, washing, and packing
  • Maintain high energy in a faced paced environment

Skills and qualifications

  • 1-2 years of experience in agriculture and/or field production
  • Self-motivated individuals
  • Comfortably able to lift 50lbs
  • Ability to work independently
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to be flexible with daily tasks
  • Clear communication skills
  • Strong commitment to organic and sustainable farming practices
  • A sense of humor
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Retail experience is a plus

During the growing season employees are expected to work 40 to 48 hours a week with rotating weekends; in all weather conditions; hours and days may vary. Background checks are required. Positions available are seasonal.  Unfortunately we are unable to provide housing. Pay commensurate with experience.

2 – Assistant Farm Managers

The position will report directly to the Farm Director but will have significant day-to-day interaction and oversight from the Head Farmer.  Experience in managing staff and excellent communications skills are required.

Primary responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Head Farmer in ensuring the farm is operating properly and efficiently
  • Team management during seeding, transplanting, weeding, greenhouse management
  • Assist in all areas of farm operations including organic crop production
  • Potential to assist in wholesale and/or retail operations

Skills and qualifications

  • 2-4 years’ experience in crop production
  • Strong ability to lead and mentor field crew
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to lead and work under pressure in a fast paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Comfortably able to lift 50lbs
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to be flexible with daily tasks
  • Strong commitment to organic and sustainable farming practices
  • A sense of humor

  • 1 year farm management or related management experience preferred
