2018 CALL FOR EARTH HARMONY SANCTUARY INTERNSHIPS
Earth Harmony Sanctuary in Newbury, MA is an educational nonprofit that cultivates an intimate and healing relationship between humans and Earth including our organic certified New Harmony Farm. We are seeking 2 paid interns, to live onsite to assist in certified organic crop production for our year-round CSA and seasonal farm stand as well as working on infrastructure and permaculture projects on Sanctuary land. The intern will work closely with our farm management and Sanctuary leaders to acquire knowledge and skills as part of their immersion in fostering an eco community. This includes but is not limited to:
- Seedling production and running a community seedling sale.
- Production and harvest record keeping to maintain organic certification
- Working with farm management, Sanctuary leaders and volunteers on several large permaculture projects including water and forest management and habitat restoration
- Apiary management
- Most aspects of biological and no/low till vegetable, herb and flower production including soil building, pest and weed control, fertility, irrigation, high tunnel crops, harvest and post harvest
- Developing a fruit tree orchard
- Setting up a farm stand and CSA distribution
- Simple construction and building maintenance skills
- Leadership and compassionate communication skills
- Character development through community living
- A profound connection to Mother Nature
This position is ideally suited for an individual who is dedicated to co-creating a sustainable future with at least one year of commercial vegetable growing or land management experience who wants to learn more about biological growing practices and a sustainable and holistic approach to agriculture. The candidate must be able to routinely and repetitively lift 50 lbs. and complete a wide range of farm and sanctuary duties carefully, quickly, and efficiently. A successful candidate will have the willingness and capacity to work in all kinds of weather conditions, flexibility, a sense of humor, have good communication skills, capacity to problem solve, collaborative spirit, strong organizational and record keeping skills, and the ability to work well independently and with others.
The work schedule is Monday-Friday and Saturday mornings with a rotation for brief Sunday chores for 35-45 hours per week depending on the demands of the growing season. One position runs Mid April though Mid-November, the second position runs May- August. Stipend is $600 per month with on-farm housing, farm produce, free access to our wide range of meditation programs, community events and some of our educational programing.

Earth Harmony Sanctuary, INC is a 16 acre, non-profit in Newbury, MA. We are in our second year as an educational and charitable non-profit and are currently in the process of becoming a 501 c 3. Our volunteer community offers opportunity to learn and connect with others as we develop our permaculture and mindfulness programs.
New Harmony Farm, is a two acre certified organic vegetable, herb, and flower farm that is part of the Sanctuary. The farm maintains a year round CSA program and a seasonal farm stand. Our farm takes organic practice to a deeper level through our commitment to biological growing practices and permaculture principles and is a low till/no-till system. We are committed to working with Nature to build soil life and crop immunities through optimal nutrition and cultivation practices that grow delicious, nutrient-rich produce.
The Sanctuary is a short bicycle ride to Plum Island and the ocean and 10 minutes to the quaint coastal city of Newburyport or to grab the train to Boston’s thriving social and cultural scene just 35 miles south.
