Poughkeepsie, New York
Encompassing 200 acres in Dutchess County, NY, Sprout Creek Farm is a working farm, creamery, creek, and education center. Students have the opportunity to work, discover, explore, and learn in each of these environments. You will find no textbooks, calculators or PowerPoints on the farm. Our teaching tools are shovels, seeds, and the more than 250 individual animals that call Sprout Creek Farm home. We offer programs that help connect young people to the land, the seasons, and the plants and animals that coexist here in harmony.
Our Education Philosophy:
At Sprout Creek Farm, we strive to offer year-round programs that will teach the importance of hard work in the context of a real working dairy farm. The farm expands classroom walls and our educators impart life-long skills and tangible subject matter to meet the needs of all our students. Through work and play that tests limits and expands horizons, participants develop self-confidence, the ability to work through challenges, and a broader sense of responsibility and commitment. Our aim is to teach a love for our fragile earth, to understand our connectedness to it, and thus develop a passion for protecting its integrity.
