Assistant Manager – Dead Branch Farms

Position Summary:

Dead Branch Farms is a new farm currently being developed in Chesterfield Massachusetts. We are actively in production of vegetables and flowers and are looking to hire an Assistant Manager for our upcoming busy season. This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate as there are unique opportunities creating new farm spaces, and shaping our vision and direction.  This is a part-time position, Tuesday through Friday, with flexibility. We’re looking for someone able to commit 25-30hrs a week, and be available from 8-3.  The Assistant Manager will coordinate with the Farm Director, lead two interns, and will assist in overseeing: Greenhouse Propagation & Production, Field Maintenance; including Planting, Harvesting, Weeding, Irrigating, Pest Management, and Soil Amendment Applications. There will also be an opportunity to  manage our weekday farm stand in Northampton, Wednesday-Friday. The position will run from June through October. Compensation based on experience.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities:

-Seeding and planting of successions

-Record keeping, and recording of field operations

-Keeping track of inventory and coordinating plantings and field operations with Farm Director

-Coordinating Irrigation schedules, and operation of Irrigation Systems

-Assisting in planning, cultivation and development of farm spaces

-Directing Interns and assignment of daily tasks

-Deployment of season extension structures, familiarity with row covers/low-tunnel type systems

-Assist in farmers market sales and set up

Preferred Experience:

-Minimum of 1 season working with an organic farm, and familiarity with production techniques

-A clear understanding of the rigor and discipline demanded of Farmers & good sense of humor

-Experience in Service Industry or within fast paced environments a plus

-Experience in Creative and Design fields a plus

-Ability to communicate effectively, and lead in a team environment, and be efficient independently

-Comfortable with field operations and strenuous tasks for extended periods; early morning; in the sun & heat; dust & dirt

-Familiarity with farm equipment and BCS walk-behind tractors

-Familiarity with line trimmers (weed whackers)

-Excellent Customer Service ability

Additional Requirements:

-Ability to lift fifty pounds regularly

-Valid Drivers License
