JOB SUMMARY

The role of the Distributor Driver and Packing Assistant will be to provide logistical and customer service support to the Adelante Mujeres Distributor and CSA Program.  S/he will support the weekly intake, packing, and delivery of fresh produce sold to wholesale buyers and Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) members.  We are looking for an individual who is enthusiastic about local food and sustainable agriculture. The ideal candidate will be inspired by and fully committed to Adelante Mujeres vision and mission and will represent the organization in a professional manner among partners, community organizations, families and individuals.

This position is a part- time/ seasonal position that runs from June- October 2018; work days are Sunday and Wednesday afternoons and evenings, and Monday and Thursday mornings and afternoons.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complete consistent and on-time deliveries to customers
  • Keep a record of all produce delivered as well as customer feedback, comments, and concerns
  • Handle invoicing and communications related to delivery; deliver the necessary invoices at the time of delivery, and pick up any distributor boxes from previous deliveries
  • Plan for, solicit, and respond to customer and partner feedback, comments, and concerns; report any problems or concerns to Distributor staff
  • Assist in all aspects of produce packing including washing, grading, weighing and packaging
  • Model excellent health and safety standards
  • Perform other related duties per manager’s request

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • English speaking proficiency
  • Experience driving vans and small trucks in city areas
  • Knowledgeable about safe food practices and comfortable handling all food
  • Good speaking and writing communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Basic computer skills and ability to use standard office equipment.
  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours
  • Valid Oregon driver’s license, clean driving record, and ability to travel locally
  • Good sense of direction
  • Ability to lift up to 20- 30 lbs repeatedly. This is a *very* physically demanding job

  • Conversational Spanish speaking ability

The Delivery Specialist works alongside the Food Hub Coordinator, performing various tasks essential to the operation of Capital Roots’ Virtual Veggie Mobile; an online marketplace where wholesale customers can order and receive fresh, local produce and value-added goods. The Virtual Veggie Mobile® is an integral part of Capital Roots’ food hub, delivering produce to inner-city communities with limited access to fresh food.

QUALIFICATIONS:  

This position requires excellent customer service and sales skills, a friendly and enthusiastic disposition and the ability to work with people of all ages and backgrounds. Excellent problem solving, interpersonal communication skills, punctuality and reliability are essential.  This candidate must have a familiarity with the Capital Region and be comfortable making deliveries throughout our service area.  The successful candidate must display a commitment to the mission of Capital Roots.  Must be comfortable driving a 16’ box truck and/or a cargo van (no CDL required); must possess a clean driving record; must be able to lift boxes in excess of 50 pounds.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Deliver fresh food (produce) and value-added goods ordered through our regional Food Hub in a friendly, efficient, and safe manner

This is a part time, 10 hour per week, year-round position, paid on an hourly basis ($11/hour). The schedule is fixed:

Siena Farms is an award-winning, 75-acre market farm growing diversified
produce on the fertile soils of the Sudbury River valley, twenty-five miles
west of Boston. We distribute our produce through our 750-member, year-round
CSA, the Copley Square Farmers’ Market, our two Boston farm stores, and area
restaurants including family-owned Oleana, Sofra, and Sarma. We grow our
produce using the traditionally-sustainable farming practices of modern,
biological agriculture, free of chemical pesticides, herbicides, and synthetic
fertilizers.

We are looking for a reliable, hardworking, and experienced delivery driver to
deliver our fresh produce to locations throughout Boston and the surrounding
area. The delivery routine will involve the distribution of our CSA boxes to
over 12 pick-up locations in Cambridge, Brookline, Boston, and neighboring
areas; deliveries to our Siena Farms South End farm store and Siena Farms @
Boston Public Market; and area restaurants.

As a delivery driver for a fast-paced production farm growing produce for a
high-end market, this position requires flexibility, attention to detail, and
an excellent work ethic. The ideal candidate will have experience delivering
in the Boston area as well as an interest in sustainable food and agriculture.

This position has the possibility for full OR part time work, year-round OR
seasonal work, and is available immediately. The weekly schedule will be
discussed in detail during the interview process; it will include some weekend
hours and changes according to the farm’s harvest season. Compensation is

Cookpad Inc., a Palo Alto based food tech startup, is hiring delivery drivers for its Farmdoor residential farmstand project. Someone who’s worked on a farm, worked at farmers’ markets, done CSA delivery, or worked with produce (grocery stores/restaurants) is strongly preferred.

“Farmdoor” (http://farmstand.me) operates self­serve farm stands in residential area. Members can get farm­direct fresh produce any time, any day, just outside of their house: We are currently running 6 pilots in Menlo Park, planning to expand soon. All our farmstands are located within close proximity of one another.

Job Responsibilities:

  • ­Receive, pack, and deliver produce to farm stands (1­3 times per week). ­
  • Follow stocking and produce handling guidelines provided by Operations Manager.

This would be a great opportunity for a someone already working as a part­time delivery driver or courier. It would also be ideal for someone looking for additional part­time work.

Requirements

  • Efficient, organized, clean, and professional.
  • Ability to work on Saturdays or Sundays when needed.
