Position Description

The Farm Alliance is seeking  part-time help (10-15 hrs/week) coordinating our Saturday morning Waverly Farmer’s Market stand. Responsibilities include: being the primary staff member at the market, inventorying,  purchasing, and organizing market supplies, keeping accurate sales records, driving the Farm Alliance vehicle to market, and coordinating use of the vehicle on non-market days. Saturday schedule is 5:30am-1:30pm weekly except for January through March when it is biweekly. The Market Coordinator reports to the Executive Director.

Market day duties include: preparing for market (5:30 am), working market (7am-noon), and cleaning up after market (noon-1:30pm). Other duties will include keeping accurate sales records, making cash deposits, ordering market supplies, and tracking and communicating market data. One farmer member of the Farm Alliance will serve as the second staffer at the market stand to support the Market Coordinator every Saturday.

Saturday Farmer’s Market:

  • Prepare for, work, and clean up after the Waverly (32nd Street) Farmer’s Market
  • Be the primary representative of the Farm Alliance at Waverly every Saturday
  • Track market inventory and work to improve current systems

Operations/logistics:

  • Communicate with members about what produce they are sending to market each week and what is to be done with leftovers
  • Communicate with Executive Director to go over data and give updates
  • Coordinate meetings of the Farm Alliance Marketing committee
  • Maintain & order supplies for Waverly Market (such as: tables, crates, berry packs, rubber bands, fruit crates/baskets, etc.)
  • Use Smartsheets to track farmer’s market data

Job Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license held for at least one year
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to perform basic computer tasks, use Microsoft Office, and be comfortable with Google

Mail and Google Drive (Docs, Sheets, etc.)

  • Experience growing and/or marketing produce
  • Ability to communicate effectively with community members and organizational partners

Hours – This position is based on the expectation of an average of 12 hours/week. Hours will be primarily

Tuesday-Saturday, year round.

Position Terms – Pay is $17-20 per hour, commensurate with experience.

Come work for the slow food movement for a small artisan cheese making company located in Fithian, IL. We make artisan raw cow’s milk cheeses in small batches on our 5th generation farm. We are looking for a responsible person to work part time evenings and weekends in the St. Louis, MO metro area. The hours are typically Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday during the day. Starting in April for the Farmers Market season, there is also a market every Wednesday evening. However, for special events they can occur any day during the week.

Job Duties

  • Keep supplies and equipment clean and organized

  • Serve cheese samples to potential customers and explain how the cheese is made and the different types of cheese and what are some common ways the cheese can be used and paired with other foods and drinks

  • Stand for long periods of time

  • Must be willing to work indoors/outdoors in all kinds of weather.
  • For farmers markets you will need to be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

As a small family farm located near Princeton, New Jersey, Marchese Farm is in the process of receiving their organic certification, growing over 100 varieties of veggies on 19 acres. This year the farm is branching out into the cold-pressed juice world, offering a variety of seasonal juices that change with available produce. They currently sell produce to nine weekly farmers markets, restaurants, brick-and-mortar retail locations, and local food distributors. Now seeking individuals who want to learn about sustainable farming, wholesale, retail, and farmers markets, with positions available immediately through early November.

About the positions:

JUICING AND PRODUCE HELPER (Hopewell NJ)
compensation: Pay is commensurate with experience.

This position is for a full time person to help with our cold-pressed juice production, and to help with the preparation of freshly picked produce for wholesale and retail outlets. We are looking for someone who can be on time in the mornings and work independently on a busy family farm. You will be working in a climate controlled purpose built barn so no need to worry about the Jersey summer heat. The facilities are well maintained and new with all the necessary tools and equipment at your disposal. Currently we are juicing twice a week, we may increase this to three depending on our demand. The days and times we are not juicing we are harvesting and need the produce washed, prepped and packed into our walk-in coolers in an organized and timely manner. You will need to be able to lift at least 40lbs to do this effectively. There is a break-room and bathroom close at hand and plenty of produce to take home at the end of the day.

We are willing to train for this position so don’t worry if you have no experience in these tasks. We only ask that you have good availability during the week and that you are punctual and reliable. We are not looking for weekend availability with the position.

We need someone who will be able to come to our farm on time, pick up the supplies and produce, go to the markets with additional staff provided by us, and return back to the farm at the end of the day. The City of Somerville seeks a Market Manager for the Somerville Mobile Farmers’ Market. It is a program led by Shape Up Somerville (SUS), which supports SUS’s mission to improve equitable access to healthy and affordable food.  SUS is an initiative within the City of Somerville’s Health and Human Services Department.  We are looking to fill this position from late May through mid-November.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Weekly and season-end accounting
    • Reconcile sales weekly and keep orderly files on City drive downloaded from POS system
    • Create and present preliminary season-end totals and trends
    • Set produce prices as needed
  • Weekly ordering and aggregation logistics
    • Order produce weekly based on sales trends and budget
    • Manage aggregation logistics such as produce pickup and drop-off sites and times as well as orderly storage for easy loading on market days
  • Drive the market van
    • Meet farmers for produce pick-up at various sites throughout Somerville
    • Drive the van on market days
  • Help manage market operations and communication
    • Report weekly on market;  news, needs, sales trends and customer feedback
    • Cover cashier role during shifts when necessary
  • High-level volunteer management
    • Find and coordinate volunteers, delegate at-market management of volunteers to others when necessary

Employment details: 

Dates of Hire: late May – mid-November

Market Season: July 14th – October 21st

Market Schedule: – Friday 9-5:30p and Saturday 9-4:30p.  Must be available to work most weekends during the market season as well as 1-2 half days during the week.

Pay: $20/hour, 16-18 hrs pre & post market season with flexible hours.  30 hours during market season.

Recommended Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license, good driving record and experience driving vans
  • Management, administration or business background

Knowledge, Abilities and Skill

Knowledge: Retail or customer service knowledge. Awareness of and sensitivity to cultural and linguistic diversity.  Produce knowledge (farming, health background).

Abilities: Flexible character and enjoys working with people. Ability to lift upwards of 50 lbs.

Skill: Bilingual or Multilingual skills preferred.

The Veggie Mobile is City Green’s mobile farm stand that works to bring fresh fruits and vegetables to neighborhoods that need it the most. The Veggie Mobile has been in operation since 2016 and has had great success in increasing access and affordability for fresh, locally grown foods. In

2016, the Veggie Mobile visited 19 partner sites in 8 different municipalities, and its reach is expanding in 2017 with a growing number of partner sites. We are looking for an enthusiastic, hardworking, and customer service oriented Mobile Market Operator to join our team.

Position Summary

The Mobile Market Operator is an important member of City Green’s Farms and Markets team. The Veggie Mobile is out on the road 4-5 days each week, making multiple stops each day in neighborhoods that lack access to fresh fruits and vegetables. Veggie Mobile farm stand stops include senior centers, city halls, WIC offices, and more. It is the Mobile Market Operator’s responsibility to drive the mobile farm stand to each site location, set up the farm stand, complete customer transactions while providing excellent customer service and information about the fruits and vegetables for sale, and break down the farm stand at the end of each market stop.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Driving City Green’s Veggie Mobile farm stand to a variety of locations 4-5 days per week, including senior centers, city halls, and more
  • Loading and unloading crates of fresh fruits and vegetables onto and off of the Veggie Mobile
  • Setting up and breaking down farm stands and displays according to City Green standards
  • Ensuring that produce and other food products are stored, displayed, and handled properly by market staff
  • Completing cash and federal benefit transactions (SNAP, WIC, FMNP) at all Veggie Mobile market sites
  • Implementing a Double Value Coupon Incentive program at all Veggie Mobile market sites for federal benefit customers
  • Collecting and recording transactional data for each market site
  • Providing friendly and respectful customer service to all Veggie Mobile shoppers
  • Attending outreach events such as health fairs and local festivals
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Must be comfortable driving and parking a box truck in urban areas. Valid driver’s license required.
  • Familiarity with food access, locally grown produce, organic agriculture, and food systems
  • Must have excellent customer service skills and be comfortable working with diverse customers
  • Comfortable completing and recording monetary and federal benefit transactions in fast-paced settings
  • Friendly and positive attitude required

We have part-time and full-time positions available, depending on the type of duty and your availability.  Training for these jobs will be provided, but previous farm experience is encouraged.

We’re looking for people who enjoy putting in a good day’s work, doing a job carefully and thoroughly !

We are hiring for positions including: retail, assisting in our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, irrigating our vegetable fields and orchard, and maintaining the overall appearance of our farm.

  • Retail: selling our produce at area farmers’ markets and at our pick-your-own farmstand; you must be available on weekends. Previous experience in a high-volume grocery, food service or other sales and customer service environment is strongly preferred.
  • Assisting in our CSA program: working closely with a small team to harvest and pack weekly shares for our CSA members, and delivering shares off-site if needed. Good knowledge of, and experience in handling, fresh local produce is a plus.
  • Irrigation: we will train you in how to maintain our system, which requires attention to detail and good organizational skills. Previous experience, and/or a science background, is preferred.
  • Maintaining the farm’s appearance: includes mowing and weeding the orchard and vegetable fields during the week.Experience in operating a tractor and heavy farm machinery is required.
