Outdoor Market Manager


Thank you for submitting your application for employment with the Grand Rapids Downtown Market. This part-time, seasonal position (20-30 hours per week, late March – early December) reports to the Special Events Manager and serves the Board of the Directors for Downtown Market.

The primary responsibility of this position is to oversee all aspects of the outdoor farmers market operations. An on-site presence during all outdoor market hours is required.

Saturdays 9:00am – 2:00pm

June – Sept:
Tuesdays 9:00am – 2:00pm
Thursdays 4:00pm – 7:00pm
Saturdays 9:00am – 2:00pm

Oct – Nov:
Saturdays 9:00am – 2:00pm

• Develop, implement, and oversee the day-to-day operations of the outdoor farmers market.
• Stay informed of key farmers market initiatives.
• Represent the outdoor market to the community.
• Assist the Marketing Manager in strategies to increase customer base and business activity, including media campaigns, promotional materials, and miscellaneous events.
• Provide regular outdoor market updates for the market newsletter & promotional material.
• Serve as staff liaison to the Outdoor Market Advisory committee.
• Recruit, supervise, and manage volunteers to assist in day-to-day operations of the outdoor farmers market.
• Assist in the planning of outdoor market events.
• Oversee outdoor market merchandising program.
• Manage all food assistance programs including, but not limited to: SNAP, Double Up Food Bucks, Senior Fresh & WIC Project Fresh.


• Ability to work Saturdays and other outdoor market days (required).
• Knowledge of agriculture, local food systems, sustainable practices, food safety standards, food distribution, and an enthusiasm for sharing information.
• Experience in retail sales, produce preferred.
• Experience in assisting in project management, program coordination and/or community building activities.
• Knowledge of word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures.
• Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service.
