We are looking for a Section Grower to join our dynamic team. This role requires horticultural, pest and fertilizer knowledge, passion for producing top-end product, and a little bit of “coolness”. You’re comfortable getting dirty, you care about the environment, and you want to do good work.

Requirement: B.S. in Horticulture or equivalent.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitors annual and perennial crops for proper watering, fertilizer, and pests.
  • Nutrition management working in collaboration with the Head Grower.
  • Applies chemicals, fertilizers, and biologicals
  • Evaluates data to identify crop challenges.
  • Manipulates greenhouse temperature, humidity to control crop growth.

Bilingual (Spanish/English) skills a plus

Tibbetts Family Farm hiring Two Employees

Lyman, Maine
Tibbetts Family Farm is looking for two qualified full time employees for the 2016 season.
Tibbetts Family Farm is a small diversified farm located in Lyman Maine. We have a greenhouse center, compost site, and approx. 35 acres of crop ground. We also hay approx 250 acres of hay. We are not certified organic, but we strive to practice integrated pest management and sustainable farming. The farm has vegetable production, greenhouses, laying hens, beef cattle, and pigs. We distribute our produce through wholesale, CSA, and two farm stands.
Position 1: Green house grower, manager, and retail operator. Looking for someone with experience in veggie seedling production, as well as some bedding plant experience. College courses and pesticide licenses are a plus, but are not required. Basic knowledge of dose-a-tron and fertilizer a plus. We use air seeders, germination chambers, and transplant teams, so any knowledge of those topics would be great. We run 1 large greenhouse, 1 small greenhouse, 2 hoop houses, 2 cold frames and a pergola. We offer professional grower services to other local businesses, so large scale production organization skills are a must. Training on site available. Non-Smoker, with valid drivers license only please.
Position 2: Full time laborer. Must be be able to lift 20 lbs constantly. Position includes daily picking crew, general farm labor, hay crew etc. Must have general knowledge of daily farm activities, be able to work alone on tasks, and be able to be personable to customers and other employees. Pay will be based upon knowledge and experience of required activities.
Valid drivers license only please. As always training opportunities are abundant.
These two positions can be mixed and matched for the right person. Positions can be seasonal or year round depending on interest. Job expansion and training available for the right person who is serious about working on a farm and expanding with us.

Green Earth Growers hiring Greenhouse Laborer and Farm Manager

GREENHOUSE LABORER/FARM MANAGER

We are an earth friendly greenhouse and produce farm operation located about half an hour south of the Cities in search of a full time, year round employee. This position rotates between greenhouse work November-May, and farm work May-October. Only serious candidates with prior greenhouse and or organic farm experience should apply thank you!

Greenhouse Duties Include:

  • Moving plant trays throughout the greenhouse
  • Preparing greenhouse bays for growing
  • Greenhouse repairs and maintenance
  • Transplanting
  • Plant care (occasional watering)
  • Customer service
  • Pulling customers orders
  • Loading orders for delivery
  • Driving delivery trucks.

Farm Manager Duties Include:

  • Planning
  • Planting
  • Harvesting
  • Setting up irrigation
  • Pest and weed control of our 3 acre produce farm using organic methods only
  • Must be able to work outside during the summer months
  • Run a tiller and other farming equipment
  • General knowledge of farm equipment maintenance and repair is a plus.

Possible candidate must be able to:

  • Work in a face paced environment with possibility to work over 40 hours a week (seasonally – In May we work up to 12 hours a day 6-7 days a week)
  • Bend, lift and carry up to 50lbs and be on your feet for 8+ hours
  • Identify different varieties of flower and veggie plants
  • Read and understand an order sheet
  • Have good customer service skills
  • Be able to take direction and work independently
  • Be detail minded and organized
  • Be able to take initiative and take ownership in your work

Tricycle Gardens hiring Greenhouse Fellow

Greenhouse Fellow

Job Responsibilities:

Tricycle Gardens is seeking a Greenhouse Fellow to assist with the seed starting operation at RVA’s Urban farm at 9th and Bainbridge on the south side. Applicants should be interested in growing organic/heirloom seeds and season extension techniques. The Greenhouse Fellow should expect to occasionally chip in on various farm projects in addition to their work in the greenhouse. Participation on volunteer workdays is encouraged and may lead to opportunities to help manage groups. It is important for Fellows to be self-motivated and determined as we work to develop our programming and to be aware of the advantage to approaching their work with patience and flexibility.

Hours:

Greenhouse Fellows typically work an average of 10 to 12 hours per week on a consistent schedule (to be determined by applicant and Greenhouse Manager). This fellowship requires a minimum commitment of three months with preference given to applicants who are able to commit for 6+ months.

Tricycle Gardens is looking for regular volunteers to help with watering on the weekends. Volunteers will sign up to work one (or more) Saturday or Sunday a month for + /– an hour watering the greenhouse and other areas of the farm. Red Fire Farm hiring Greenhouse/Bedding Plants Manager

Montague, Massachusetts

Greenhouse/Bedding Plants Manager, Red Fire Farm in Montague, Mass.

Red Fire Farm is looking for an experienced grower to help manage our greenhouse and oversee our bedding plants program this spring.
Red Fire is an organic veggie farm with more than 100 acres in cultivation in western Massachusetts. In addition to our CSA and retail produce, we grow a wide range of vegetables and annuals to sell at our farm stands and farmers markets. We also grow for wholesale customers, including local nurseries and farms.

The new Bedding Plants/Greenhouse manager will work closely this season with our longtime Bedding Plants manager to learn our systems, get to know our customers and the daily flow of seeding, crew managing and — come spring — organization and delivery of plants.

Ideal candidates will have at least two years of greenhouse experience and/or horticulture training, and be able to commit to the farm for the 2016 season as well. Swan Creek Farm offering Work Exchange

Hamptonville, North Carolina
We are a small 3 acre burgeoning cottage farm featuring organic medicinal herbs, Chinese herbs, greenhouse, vegetables, and flowers. Located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, our setting is picturesque with scenic surrounding vistas and 2 red barns. We are rural, but just a 30 minute drive from a major city. There are wineries and sky diving within just a few miles, and a lake, large rivers for rafting, state parks for rock climbing and hiking, and great mountain biking opportunities within a 30 mile distance. Our children are all in college, so it is just myself, my husband, and our dog here on the property.

The accommodations are pretty sweet in a separate 600 Sq Ft barn renovated with bathroom, shower (Yay for hot water!) heat/air, deck; space for only 2 volunteers at a time; no pets and no children as we are not sure our dog would get along. Wi-fi and cable TV. Wash must be taken to laundromat. We will expect that the barn and surrounding area be kept clean and neat, and be left clean upon your departure with beds stripped. Whole foods, meat, veggies out of the garden in season provided for meals with self accommodating kitchenette area, microwave, toaster oven, grill and fridge. We cannot accommodate those with special diets (vegetarian okay-vegan not okay) or food allergies. We provide basic cooking ingredients, so it is important that you know how to prepare meals from scratch. English only spoken unfortunately.
