Red Fire Farm hiring Tractor Operator/Production Assistant

Granby, Massachusetts

Red Fire Farm, a certified organic farm in the beautiful Pioneer Valley, is seeking a skilled Tractor Operator/Production Assistant to work on our fields in Granby.

We have about 100 acres in cultivation, with more than 30 in Granby — the smaller, more public-facing farm of our two farm locations. Our CSA program is one of the largest in New England, with more than 1,500 members around the state. We are dedicated to a very high standard of diversified crops and sell our produce at farmers markets, our stands and to restaurants and retailers in western Massachusetts and Boston.

For this role, we’re looking for individuals with proficiency operating a mix of farm machinery. We need candidates who are truly passionate about farming, and want to help us sustain a large, successful organic farm.

You’ll work with the management team in Granby to implement the farm’s production plans in the field, from field preparation and seeding to cultivation and irrigation. Aside from field tractor work, round out time helping with harvests, leading field crews, and assisting with the general process of the farm.

The majority of our greenhouses and salad mix fields are in Granby and we’re looking for someone with an interest in those areas. In the next couple of years, we’d like to expand our salad mix production and bring in new tools for a more progressive, efficient harvest. Ideally, we’d have someone make a two-year commitment to the farm.

Tractor Responsibilities—

At Red Fire Farm you will operate 65-75 hp Massey and John Deer Tractors with Imants Spader, Flail mower, Chisel Plow, Perfecta, Bed Former, Mulch Layer, Lannen and Rain Flow Transplanters and other vegetable farm implements for field preparation and crop care. Detailed operation of ACG’s and Farmall Cubs for seeding and cultivating also.

Other Responsibilities —

In this role, you’ll be a key member of the production team, and will be doing all sorts of farm related tasks. You work closely with the Production Manager on irrigating, repair projects, greenhouse care, weeding, and more.
